The Nassau chair seat and back are made from Social Plastic®, a certified recycled plastic material sourced through a program that pays local collectors in developing communities a premium for plastic waste — directly funding basic family necessities through what would otherwise be discarded material. The chair legs are 100% FSC-certified wood. At $4,247, the result is a complete 8-seat outdoor dining set with certified materials throughout.

Product Highlights
Social Plastic®: What It Is and Why It Matters
Social Plastic® is a certified recycled plastic material developed by Plastic Bank — an organization that establishes plastic collection ecosystems in coastal communities in developing countries. Local collectors gather plastic waste and exchange it at collection points for a premium — cash, digital tokens, or goods — that helps fund basic family necessities including food, school tuition, and medical care. The collected plastic is then processed into Social Plastic® feedstock used in certified products like the Nassau chair. The certification is independently verified through an audited supply chain with documented community impact — it is not a generic recycled-plastic claim.
FSC-Certified Teak Table Top
FSC certification means the teak used in this table is sourced from forests managed to strict environmental, social, and economic standards set by the Forest Stewardship Council — ensuring responsible harvesting practices, worker welfare, and ecosystem preservation. Teak's naturally high oil content makes it inherently resistant to moisture, rot, and insect damage without annual sealing. Left untreated, it develops a silver-grey patina over time; apply LifestyleGarden Wood Sealer periodically to maintain the original sanded appearance.
Two Nassau Chair Versions
This set uses the Nassau Social Plastic® chair — Social Plastic® seat and back with FSC-certified wood legs — for a warmer aesthetic with natural wood legs. The alternative Nassau Carver chair uses an aluminum frame throughout with painted aluminum / polymer seat and back, for a sleeker, more industrial look. Both pair with the same Portals Dark teak table.
Complete 9-Piece Set for Eight
The set includes the Portals Dark rectangular dining table — black aluminum frame with an FSC-certified teak top — plus eight Nassau Black armchairs. The 82" table seats three guests per side plus one at each end.

Important Information
Care: clean the FSC teak table top with a soft brush and mild soap. Rinse with water and allow to dry completely before applying any treatment.
Apply LifestyleGarden Wood Sealer periodically to maintain the sanded black teak finish. Untreated teak will develop a silver-grey patina — cosmetic only, not structural.
Clean Social Plastic® chair seats and backs with mild soapy water and a soft cloth or brush. Rinse and allow to air dry. The material is inherently weather and UV resistant.
Clean FSC wood chair legs with a soft cloth and mild soap. Dry thoroughly. A periodic coat of outdoor wood oil or sealer is recommended to maintain the legs' appearance.
Clean aluminum table frames with mild soapy water and a soft cloth. Rinse and allow to dry.
For off-season storage, use a purpose-fit outdoor furniture cover to protect the full set.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Social Plastic® and how is it different from standard recycled plastic?
Social Plastic® is a certified recycled plastic material from Plastic Bank — an organization that pays local collectors in developing coastal communities a premium for gathering plastic waste. The premium directly funds basic necessities including food, school tuition, and medical care. Unlike generic 'recycled plastic,' Social Plastic® is independently verified through an audited supply chain with documented community impact. Each purchase of a Social Plastic® product directly supports this collection program and the communities that run it.
How does this set compare to the Portals Dark 9-Piece Set with Nassau Carver Chairs?
Both sets use the same Portals Dark 82" rectangular teak table. The difference is the chair: this set uses the Nassau Social Plastic® chair (Social Plastic® seat and back, FSC wood legs), while the other set uses the Nassau Carver chair (aluminum frame throughout). The Social Plastic® version has a warmer aesthetic with natural wood legs and the additional Social Plastic® sustainability certification. Choose this set if sustainability credentials and the wood-leg aesthetic matter to you; choose the Nassau Carver set if you prefer a fully aluminum chair frame.
Does the teak table top require annual maintenance?
No. Teak does not require annual sealing to remain structurally sound. Its natural oil content provides inherent weather resistance. Without treatment, teak will gradually develop a silver-grey patina — a natural weathering process that does not indicate damage. To maintain the original sanded black appearance, apply LifestyleGarden Wood Sealer periodically. This is a cosmetic preference, not a structural requirement.
Can I add more Nassau chairs to this set later?
Yes. The Nassau Social Plastic® chair is available separately. If your entertaining needs grow beyond 8 guests, additional chairs in the matching finish can be added. Contact us for individual Nassau chair availability and pricing.
The LifestyleGarden Portals Dark 9-Piece Dining Set is outdoor entertaining with certified materials throughout — FSC-certified teak, black aluminum, and eight chairs whose material directly funds basic necessities for plastic collectors in developing communities. The 8-seat scale means no compromises on who you can host.
